Helen Dunmore Under the Influence of John Keats

On Thursday 21 September 2006, The Poetry Society, in association with the London Review of Books, continue their Under The Influence series with Helen Dunmore reading from her own work and that of John Keats.

We are all used to two live poets reading from their work. We are also used to reading contemporary poets in relation to earlier twentieth-century poets, but what about further back? One of the great strengths of contemporary poetry in English is its relation to English poets right the way back through the tradition. In Under the Influence living poets will share the event with a pre-1900 colleague who influenced their work.

Helen Dunmore's poetry collections include The Apple Fall (1983), The Sea Skater (1986), The Raw Garden (1988) and Short Days, Long Nights: New and Selected Poems (1991). Her novels include Zennor in Darkness (1993), A Spell of Winter (1995), Talking to the Dead (1996), Your Blue-Eyed Boy (1998), With Your Crooked Heart (1999). She is also the author of two collections of short stories, Love of Fat Men (1997) and Ice Cream (2000). Her latest book is House of Orphans (2006), a historical novel set in Finland.
