Page Fright

Spoken word and performance poetry is often perceived as very different from the page poetry that we encounter when studying poetry at school. However, many of the biggest spoken word artists are inspired by historical writers, and explore these influences in their writing.

We have spoken to four of the most successful poets, MCs and performers about which poets have influenced them and their writing. Each poet has performed a poem of their own, a piece which inspires them, and has talked about that writer’s influence on their work.

Each film shows you new ways to look at the poems presented, and explores the relationship between page poetry and spoken word.

Take a look at the films from Dizraeli, Hollie McNish, Joelle Taylor and Benjamin Zephaniah.
