A monthly hitting The Poetry Cafe every 3rd Thursday.

The event is an open mic poetry event with a focus on socio-political discourse and hip-hop, featuring a relaxed and welcoming vibe hosted by a collective of 5 poets. The event aims to create a space in which those without a voice or platform can become comfortable delivering their message to a diverse audience and have themselves heard.

Vol. 7 features:

Shruti Chauhan

Shruti is a poet and performer based in Leicester. She has won slams internationally in Chicago and Mumbai, and has performed at Royal Albert Hall, Southbank Centre, Rich Mix, the US Embassy’s American Centre in New Delhi and the Green Mill in Chicago. Shruti is currently developing her debut solo show, The Sky Diaries, at the Curve, Leicester, and also has a pamphlet forthcoming with Burning Eye Books this year

Slam The Poet

Slam The Poet plays on the boundaries of our concentration, speaking songs that question our performance of intimacy. ‘Where can there be softness in a city that never stops screaming? How do we keep each other close when these boroughs seem to stretch out infinitely, and the busman won’t allow you past the emergency fare?’
Slam explores these questions with us in spinning, trancelike rhythms that leave us the choice of zoning in or out to his sounds.
