Brighton Poem-A-Thon raises over £30,000 for charity

Sarah Hesketh at Brighton Poem-A-ThonOn Sunday 11 December, an all-day poetry relay of 60 poets, including Attila the Stockbroker, Inua Ellams, Ros Barber, Grace Nichols, Sasha Dugdale, and Sarah Hesketh (pictured), raised an astonishing £30,000 for the Refugee Council. The event took place at the Komedia in Brighton.

The Refugee Council work with refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK. Many refugees have lost everything and their lives will never return to normal.  The Refugee Council offers a helping hand to support and empower them to rebuild their lives.

In total, Poem-A-Thons held in London, Sheffield and Brighton over the last twelve months have raised over £75,000 for charities helping victims of war and natural disasters.
