Danielle Boodoo-Fortune wins Wasafiri

Wasafiri New Writers AwardThe winner of the 2016 Wasafiri New Writing Prize for poetry is Danielle Boodoo-Fortune for her poem ‘Portrait of my father as a grouper’. The poem will be published in the spring 2017 issue of the magazine and Danielle receives £300.

A Special Commendation was given to Poetry Society Member Zillah Bowes for her poem ‘Dogs who like fish’. Zillah was recently longlisted for The Poetry School / Nine Arches Press Primers award. Member Elisabeth Sennitt Clough was among the shortlisted poets. Elisabeth has also been successful in a number of competitions recently and is a Jerwood/Arvon Mentee, as well as being a Poetry Society Stanza rep.
