Janet Norton wins inaugural Swan Trust Poetry Prize

Walter Swan Trust logoJanet Norton has won the inaugural Swan Trust Poetry Prize for her poem ‘Umbilical’. Second prize went to Poetry Society Member Nairn Kennedy for ‘This Year’, and 3rd prize went to Ian Royce Chamberlain for ‘Clearing Out’.

Among the Highly Commended Poets were Poetry Society Members Emma Storr for ‘April Walk’ and Romola Parish for ‘Lumb Bank’.

The prize was judged as part of the Ilkley Literature Festival by Andrew McMillan, and assisted by the Wharfedale Poets. The Walter Swan Trust has been established to promote creative writing and to provide opportunities to young and new writers.
