Neil Elder and Patricia Helen Wooldridge win Cinnamon Prize

Poetry Society Members Neil Elder (for The Space Between Us) and Patricia Helen Wooldridge (for Sea Poetics) are joint winners of Cinnamon Press’s Debut Poetry Collection Prize.

Neil  has had poems published in a number of magazines and journals (among them The Rialto, Acumen, Envoi and South). His pamphlet Codes of Conduct won the Cinnamon Press Pamphlet Competition and was published in 2016. His work is described by the judges as

‘layered, sometimes quirky, always has a lot going on under the surface, is invariably fresh in perspective and remains wonderfully accessible.’

Patricia was runner-up in the 2013 National Poetry Competition, and won the 2016 Kent and Sussex Poetry Competition.  The judges said

‘a beautifully modulated voice, uses beautiful sound patterns, keeps every piece taut, lyrical and original.’

Among the long-listed poets are Poetry Society Members Christian Wethered, Jane Lovell, and Jess Mookherjee.

The competition is open to those who have not had a full collection published. The winners’ collections will be published in 2018.
