#relaypoem is back for Rio 2016!

The Summer Olympic Games have begun, and The Poetry Society are once again calling on you to “float like a butterfly / sting like O’Shaughnessy” with the #relaypoem Twitter hashtag.

We’d love to hear your rhyming couplets as the events take place – make sure to include #relaypoem in your post. We’ll be retweeting our favourites to The Poetry Society’s Twitter account, and compiling them on this page as the Games progress. Follow @PoetrySociety on Twitter so you don’t miss a single gold-worthy rhyme.

22/08/16: As the Olympic Games come to their end, some closing remarks courtesy of the Twitterati. Thank you everybody for participating – we’ll see you again shortly for the Paralympics!

15/08/16: It’s been an electrifying week for Team GB, and we’ve got the poetry to prove it:

8/08/16: Just a few days into the Olympics, and already we’ve seen the #relaypoem baton passed with such frenzy that the pundits have been left speechless. Alas, Poetry Nation is not eligible to win any medals (we asked), but you can still find some of the best couplets from the opening weekend below. Keep tweeting!
