The Poetry Café is now closed to allow for essential works on the venue and building to take place. The Café will be closed while we improve the access, capacity and design of our public spaces. This work is being carried out alongside additional improvements to The Poetry Society offices and building as a whole.
Poetry Society staff are currently located in the Café space as we use it as a temporary office while work goes on upstairs – so the building looks a little more alive than it did a few weeks ago, but the Café is still closed to the public.
Support The Poetry Café’s refurbishment
The Poetry Society has big plans for The Poetry Café and we’d like to invite you to support the project. The refurbishment works will update and improve access, increase the capacity, provide new heating and ventilation, and acoustically separate the basement venue from the Café ground floor. Every aspect of the visitor experience will be improved, providing a home for poetry for years to come. Would you like to support the project? Here’s how you do it. All donations, however small, are very gratefully received.
The Poetry Café will reopen in late May 2017. Exact dates for reopening will announced as soon as we know. Don’t worry though, you can still enjoy many of our regular promoters’ events in alternative venues whilst the café is being refurbished. We will continue to promote and detail events in the temporary locations so keep an eye on the website calendar for more information as it becomes available, or you can sign up to the Poetry Café Mailing List if you’d like the information emailed to you directly.
We very much look forward to welcoming you back into the improved and refreshed space when we re-open in a few months’ time.
In the meantime, here are a few pictures of the ongoing work:
