David Constantine is not new to winning awards for his translation skills. In 1996 he was the winner of the European Poetry Prize for Poems of Hölderlin. His other poetry books include Selected Poems, Caspar Hauser, The Pelt of Wasps and Something for the Ghosts. His latest collection is Elder (Bloodaxe, 2014). His co-translations include editions of Henri Michaux and Philippe Jaccottet in the Bloodaxe Contemporary French Poets series. He has also translated Goethe’s Faust for Penguin Classics. He was shortlisted for The Poetry Society’s Popescu European Poetry Translation Prize in 2015 for his translation, with Tom Kuhn, of Love Poems by Bertolt Brecht (Liveright Publishing).
