Working in partnership with the Freud Museum, The Poetry Society explores the connections between poetry and psychoanalysis with a series of events, presenting leading speakers from both worlds in conversation.
In 2016 we presented two events, both exploring ‘Word & Image‘ – ‘Painting your reality‘, a workshop with the poet Pascale Petit and the Spring Psychoanalytic Poetry Festival, where speakers from the worlds of poetry, film and psychoanalysis explored the power of images in memory, imagination and poetry.
In 2015, we presented three events examining The Creative Unconscious: ‘I Remember’ – a poetry workshop with Kathryn Maris; an all-day conference at the Freud Museum; and a pyschoanalytic poetry pop-up event at the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh. Memory and Memorialisation, the Psychoanalytic Poetry Festival in 2014, was presented as part of The Poetry Society’s programme marking of the centenary of the beginning of the First World War.
