The Winter issue of the new-look Poetry News – the quarterly newspaper for members of The Poetry Society – is here, loaded with poetry happenings, celebrations and opportunities.
In this issue, we share ‘The Christmas Tree’s Secret’ – Julia Copus‘s poem which surrounds the famous Christmas Tree in Trafalgar Square until the beginning of January. In his interview with Karen Leeder, we look ahead to the acclaimed German poet Jan Wagner‘s Poetry Society Annual Lecture, which he will present in Liverpool, London and Oxford in February 2017. Richard Price writes on “the good strangeness” of giving, Alyson Hallett on running poetry workshops with refugees, Heidi Williamson on becoming a full-time freelance writer and 2016 Stanza Competition Winner Pat Winslow on listening out for a poem.
In our quarterly members’ poems competition, we also premiere six new members’ poems on the subject of ‘Getting out’, chosen by Anna Woodford, and announce the new competition on the theme of ‘Dilemma’ judged by R.A. Villanueva.
We celebrate the opening of three news stanza groups in Barking, Chipping Norton and North Shields, as well as the prodigious success of our members in recent poetry competitions. We look ahead to festivals and competitions, and explore poetry seen and heard, keeping you in touch on the web, on screen and across the airwaves.
