SLAMbassadors web banner

SLAMbassadors was The Poetry Society’s national youth slam for 13-18 year olds. Between 2001 and 2018, it unearthed new talent, igniting live events, and developing the future of UK spoken word. This is now an archive page for reference only.

To find out about The Poetry Society’s extensive programmes for young people, head to the Young Poets page of our website. There, you’ll find information about our free global network of writers aged 25 and younger, Young Poets Network; the world’s biggest competition for 11-17 year olds, the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award; and our performance opportunities for young people only, Young Poets Takeovers.

We continue to work with the brilliant SLAMbassadors poet coaches, who can run SLAMbassadors style workshops with your young people. To invite a poet in to work with your groups, please complete and send us this form to [email protected]. Find out more about our education programme here.

Workshop programme

SLAMbassadors ran a targeted workshop programme in education settings across the country. These sessions aimed to engage young people with poetry and uncover new talent. The Poetry Society still sends spoken word poets into schools, and has done so for over 50 years. I was drifting. SLAMbassadors picked me up, and dropped me down with a newfound zeal and confidence… I felt powerful for maybe the first time in my life.
