The Poetry Society works with young people in primary and secondary schools, sixth forms, youth groups, young traveler centres – anywhere where there are young people who have a story to tell.
Although our SLAMbassadors competition is no longer running, we continue to run spoken word masterclasses and slams in schools up and down the UK through our Poets in Schools programme.
Workshops are delivered by some of the biggest names in spoken word, and focus on the theme of ‘identity’. They are specifically are designed to boost self-confidence, engage with at-risk youth, as well as improve communication and literacy skills.
“It has quite literally changed his life”
Teacher talking about a SLAMbassadors participant, 2015
The SLAMbassadors model is to run two full day workshops with a poet educator, working with one group towards creating original spoken word pieces on the theme of ‘identity’. We also offer bespoke workshops and performances – let us know what would work best for your young people. Email [email protected] with this enquiry form for more details.
For clusters of schools, or local schools networks we can also offer:
- Bespoke teacher training looking at performance poetry techniques
- Participation by some in a regional showcase with other participating schools
