Join Mary J. Oliver and Lynne Hjelmgaard as they celebrate the publication of their new books Jim Neat: The Case of a Young Man Down on His Luck and A Second Whisper. Following readings from both new titles there will be questions from the audience chaired by Amy Wack.
In Jim Neat, Mary J. Oliver goes in search of her father through the scant memories she has of him and discovers an unfulfilled life tinged with the tragedy of his partner’s death and a lost daughter in Canada. Using the few documents of Jim Neat’s life and a mix of poetry and prose Oliver creates a fascinating and engaging book, unlike any other memoir.
A Second Whisper is Lynne Hjelmgaard’s moving new collection that reflects the changing identities of a woman: in motherhood, in widowhood, in friendship and grief. There are elegies to her late husband as well as to her mentor and partner, the Poet Dannie Abse who died in 2014. Her lyrics are precise, warm in tone, and suffused with optimism for the future.
Suitable for all ages.
