It’s that time of year again!
Every year The Poetry Society commissions a new poem to welcome the famous Norwegian Christmas tree to Trafalgar Square as part of the Look North More Often programme, which has been running since 2009. We look forward to announcing more about the poem soon, and decorating the base of the tree with it from 2 December to 6 January.
Join us for a festive unveiling of this year’s Christmas poem as part of the official lighting-up ceremony of the tree.
The Lord Mayor of Westminster, and the Mayor of Oslo, will be switching on the lights and welcoming the tree to London in a free event which marks the start of the Christmas season in the capital. The new poem will be performed towards the end of the ceremony by local schoolchildren. The children have been taking part in The Poetry Society’s Look More Often project, learning about the history of the tree, and writing their own poems too.
Don’t forget to follow the tree on Twitter @trafalgartree in the meantime.
