Start the new year with a bang!
We’re back with another Young Poets Takeover to kick off 2019. Join us for a poetry gig by and for young writers, with sets from 6 up-and-coming poets and an open mic section for all poets up to the age of 25.
This Young Poets Takeover has a focus on winners of SLAMbassadors, The Poetry Society’s spoken word programme. We are delighted to announce the stellar line-up! Four SLAMbassadors from 2018, Joshua Eyakware, Noah Jacob, Destiny Adeyemi and Precious Olisaokafor; three young poets from SLAM in Angell Town 2018 Victoria Agyarko, Victorina Agyarko and Eden Ehioghae; and two SLAMbassadors from 2017, Precious Ogunlowo and Arinola Adegbite, will take to the stage and share groundbreaking new work in spoken word. The event will once again be hosted by The Poetry Society’s Education Co-ordinator Helen Bowell.
Feeling brave? You can perform at this event. There will be open mic slots of 2 minutes each for all young poets – just arrive at 3pm to sign up on the day! We welcome all styles of poetry, and writers at all stages in their development. It’s first come, first served and open mic slots are popular, so arrive promptly to get your name on the list. Register for your free ticket to the event on this page.
And if you don’t want to perform but do want to hear young talent and meet your poetry peers, come along! You can register for your free ticket on this page.
Arrive 3pm for tea and chat. Sign up for open mic from 3pm. Readings start at 3.30pm promptly.
