About Us – new competition for young people

An exciting new competition for young people launches today. About Us invites young people aged 4-18 to write a poem and/ or create an animation project using the Scratch coding platform. The theme of the competition is ‘connectivity and the universe’ and we’d like young people to explore the infinite number of ways we are connected to the universe, the natural world and one another.

The competition is a collaboration between The Poetry Society, Stemettes – the award-winning social enterprise working to bring young women and non-binary young people into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths careers; and 59 Productions – the award-winning design studio and production company who created the video design for the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. About Us is one of ten projects commissioned for Unboxed, a massive celebration of creativity and innovation in the UK.

Competition entrants win the chance to see their work featured in an amazing live event that will tour the UK in spring 2022. Further prizes include publication, talent development opportunities and other goodies. The competition is open to all young people aged 4-18 based in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The deadline is midnight on 19 December 2021.

To ignite the sparks of inspiration, we’re producing free learning resources for teachers and students combining poetry and science. New resources will be released all through the autumn.
