Canoes & Canals, Poetry & Paddles

A big splash over on the Waterlines website, where our Canal Laureate Nancy Campbell is about to set off on a week-long kayak trip along the Desmond Family Canoe Trail.

Beginning in Liverpool and ending in Leeds, she’ll be paddling through Aintree, Parbold, Wigan, Blackburn and the locks and swing bridges in between. En route, her role is to report – in poetry – on the people and projects she discovers.

With a waterproof camera strapped to the front of her kayak, and her phone safely stowed in a plastic bag, Nancy will tweet as she goes. For the latest swan stats and towpath pics, follow along at @canalpoetry #poetpaddle #artsonthewaterways

The Canal Laureateship is a collaboration between The Poetry Society and the Canal and River Trust, aiming to inspire more people to experience and appreciate our waterways through poetry.
