Foyle Young Poet Rebels on Radio 3

Foyle Young Poets Jade Cuttle and Aisha Mango Borja will both have their poems read by Natalie Simpson on 30 December 2018 as part of BBC Radio 3’s Words and Music programme. The programme will be available from 17.30 on 30 December here.

This episode of Words and Music is titled Rebel, Rebel, marking the centenary of J.D. Salinger’s birth and the rebellious protagonist of The Catcher in the Rye Holden Caulfield. It will include poetry, prose and music by writers and composers writing in their rebellious youth and with rebels as their heroes. Alongside Foyle Young Poets, tune in for work by Shelley, Mark Twain, Jane Austen, Emily Dickinson, Steve Reich, Debussy, Shostakovich and Charles Mingus, read by Samuel West and Natalie Simpson.

Jade Cuttle’s poem ‘The Miracle of Mould’ will be read. This poem was awarded a prize in the Young Poets Network End Hunger UK challenge and included in an anthology.

Aisha Mango Borja’s poem ‘Resolution’ will also be included. It was commended in the 2015 Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award, and a line from this poem gave the 2015 Foyle anthology its title: ‘The Wolves of Normality’. Tune in on 30 December to listen.
