Helena Goddard wins Poetry on the Lake Silver Wyvern prize

Congratulations to Poetry Society Member Helena Goddard who is the winner of this year’s Poetry on the Lake Silver Wyvern competition for her poem ‘Rower, Battersea Lake’, and to fellow Member Graham Burchell, who has won second prize for ‘Dead in the Water’.

Graham is a former winner of The Poetry Society’s Stanza Competition, as is Michael Swan, Highly Commended here for ‘Balance’.

Poetry Society Members Bridget Frost, Patrick Lodge, Mary Gilonne, Virginia Griem and Olivia Dawson were shortlisted.

The winner of the Formal Category, for traditional poetic forms only: sonnet, sestina, villanelle, and so on, is also a Poetry Society Member: Ian Royce Chamberlain for ‘What will survive of us’, with fellow Member Carolyn King on the shortlist.

The competition judge for the Silver Wyvern category was poet, songwriter and broadcaster Paul Henry. Kevin Bailey judged the Formal Category. 

Since 2001 Kevin Bailey has co-organised and judged at the annual Poetry on the Lake festival held at Orta San Giulio in Italy, the antique island on Lake Orta northern Italy.
