Luisia Igloria is the winner of the £5,000 Resurgence Poetry Prize 2015, the world’s major eco-poetry award, judged by Sir Andrew Motion, Jo Shapcott and Alice Oswald. The prize was presented by Joanna Lumley.

Chairman of the judges, the former Poet Laureate, Sir Andrew Motion, praised Luisa’s winning poem for its ‘authenticity, intensity and cohesion’.

Second prize of £2,000 was awarded to Poetry Society Member Claire Collison, and third prize of £1,000 to Meredi Ortega.

Among the commended poets were Poetry Society Members Judy Brown, Nicola Healey, Geraldine Clarkson, and Ruth Wiggins, as well as former Foyle Young Poet winner Ruth Yates.

The awards are made each year for original and previously unpublished poems in English which embrace ecological themes. With total prize money of £8,000, the award ranks amongst the highest of any English language single poem competition.
