Inua Ellams wins Magma Poetry Competition

Inua Ellams with 2nd & 3rd prizes Rowena Warwick and Ben Strak at the prize ceremony

Poetry Society Member Inua Ellams is the winner of the Magma Poetry Competition 2018/19, as chosen by Andrew McMillan. Inua appears in the current issue of The Poetry Review and will be reading at the Poetry Cafe on 17 April as part of the launch celebrations (alongside Sophie Collins and Carolyn Jess-Cooke). Inua is also on the shortlist for the Brunel International African Poetry Prize.

The Magma prize reading ceremony took place in the beautiful and atmospheric setting of Exmouth Market Centre in Islington, North London.

Among the winning poets were Poetry Society Members Catherine Norris and Regina Weinert, who were both Commended, Derek Hughes (winner of the Editors’ Prize), Kathy Pimlott (second in the Editors’ Prize), and Barbara Hickson (Commended in Editors’ Prize).
