New film poems: SLAMbassadors in Angell Town

Over the Easter holidays The Poetry Society’s SLAMbassadors team took our spoken word project to South London and held a masterclass for local young poets at Brixton Recording Studio in Angell Town. Our young poets worked with SLAM maestro Joelle Taylor to produce new work which we captured in a series of videos made by local film maker Hayley Reid. We are delighted to release these film poems, available here, and a short documentary about the project.

Studio support was provided by Elijah Kerr and Sammy SoSo from Brixton Recording Studios. We also welcomed Caleb Femi, who spent his last day as Young People’s Laureate for London talking poetry and taking portraits of these rising spoken word stars, above, and available on the SLAMbassadors website.

Find out more about this project on the SLAMbassadors website.

SLAMbassadors 2018 is now open for applications. We’re accepting applications for a spoken word masterclass with Joelle Taylor from 13-18 year olds. We’re also accepting applications for a slot in our SLAMbassadors Showcase in November from all performance poets, rappers and MCs up to the age of 25. Find out more and apply by 31 August.
