Well, the Poem-A-Thon is over and we’ve taken a breath. It was a long poetry-filled day, with 61 poets reading non-stop from 12-10pm at the Poetry Café last Saturday. But it was a huge amount of fun and we couldn’t have asked for a better response. With over £1,200 raised on the door, and nearly £5,000 in sponsorship, we are completely overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and love for the Poetry Café and all the work all over the country The Poetry Society does from this building in Covent Garden in London.
So, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped on the day, whether they did a stint handing out prizes on the poetry tombola, or gave stickers out and encouraged donations on the door, read their words for us or compered, came along to listen and support or watched the goings-on over social media and donated from afar. We couldn’t have had such a brilliant day without each and every one of you.
We still have more money to raise for the project, as the refurbishment project has been a huge undertaking – but for now, we’re basking in the love and enjoyment and poetry from the Poem-A-Thon. Here are some pictures from the day, though of course not every single poet is represented here. You can also take a look at the #poemathon hashtag on Twitter, with more pictures and excitement from the day and night.
