Congratulations to all the Poetry Society Members who did well in A Poem and a Pint Poetry Competition, judged by Clare Shaw.
Carole Bromley was third for her poem ‘The Unpacking’. Carole was also Highly Commended for two poems ‘Medical Students’ and ‘Nobody Tells Me’. Joining Carole on the Highly Commended list were Society Members Kerry Darbishire (‘The Moment’), Mike Farren (‘Sandy Lane’) and Jane Kite (‘Smart’).
The overall winner was Ross Baxter, with Rachel Goodman second and Hannah Hodgson receiving a Young Poet’s Prize.
Clare Shaw was a winner of a Northern Writers Award for Poetry earlier in the year. A Poem and a Pint is a bi-monthly reading series featuring guest poets and open mic slots based in South Cumbria. All the winning and Highly Commended poems will be read on Saturday 29 September at The Laurel and Hardy Museum, Brodgen Street, Ulverston, at which Clare will read from her new collection Flood.
