Poetry Café building work is well underway…

The Poetry Cafe architect's design

The building work on The Poetry Society premises at 22 Betterton Street is underway and the squeal and thwack of drills and hammers have temporarily replaced the hubbub of poets and poetry lovers in the Poetry Café. The architect’s plan for a refurbished Café with a smart new frontage (as pictured), and a well ventilated, well lit performance space accessed via an elegant staircase and an up-to-date disabled lift, is on its way to becoming a reality.

The renovation of the Café and the wider redevelopment and updating of The Poetry Society’s premises is possible thanks to the generosity of a wide range of funders: Arts Council England, City & Bridge Trust, SUEZ Communities Trust, The Robert Gavron Charitable Trust and Garfield Weston. We are very grateful for their support.

Donate to the cause!

In 2017 we hope to announce a range of innovative fundraising initiatives – look out for our announcement of some of these in the coming months. In the meantime you can easily make a donation via the ‘support us’ section of The Poetry Society website. Every donation, however small, will help us achieve our aim of making the newly reopened Poetry Café a fitting home for poetry.

Café Events

And while the café is closed, many of the regular nights that would usually be hosted by the Café have temporarily relocated. You can find out information about all those events on the Poetry Café calendar.
