Poetry Society marathon fundraiser an epic success

The Poetry Society’s Poem-A-Thon last Saturday was an epic poetry-filled success, with 60 poets reading back-to-back from 12 noon to 10pm last Saturday.  An overwhelming number of poems was accompanied by a fabulous amount of support and generosity and The Poetry Society raised about £1,000 on the door and over £4,000 in sponsorship.  All proceeds go to The Poetry Society towards the ongoing maintenance of its premises, cafe and performance space in Covent Garden as well as towards its education and talent development programmes and the leading poetry journal The Poetry Review.

A huge thank you therefore from The Poetry Society to all who helped in any capacity on the day, either upstairs at the welcome desk, at the tombola, in the cafe or doing vox pops, or downstairs compering, reading, listening and supporting.  Also, donations are still open so you can support your favourite poet participant here.

Audio recordings of the event are being released on The Poetry Society’s Soundcloud, with Part I of the event (from 12noon to 2pm) now available to listen to here.
