Success for Pat Winslow and S Niroshini in Poetry London Prize

CONGRATULATIONS to Poetry Society Members Pat Winslow and S Niroshini, second and third in this year’s Poetry London Prize, judged by Ilya Kaminsky. The winner is Eleanor Penny, who has won multiple prizes with The Poetry Society’s Young Poets Network.

Pat won second prize for her poem ‘1971, Northaw’. She was the winner of The Poetry Society’s Stanza Poetry Competition in 2016 (this year’s theme is ‘Hear’). patwinslow.com

Ilya: “This prose poem has an otherworldly quality. ‘I saw myself. What I mean is I saw myself inside the tree’, the journey begins, taking us to the unexpected.”

S Niroshini’s poem ‘Letters to Sunny Leone’ took third place. She is the author of a forthcoming pamphlet with Bad Betty Press. sniroshini.com

Ilya: “The perspective here won me over instantly. The way the author observes how we live inside bodies, how we negotiate our days, and the (lack of) possibilities, is unique.”

Congratulations too to fellow Members Mel Pryor (Highly Commended) and Natalie Crick (who received a special mention). There were special mentions too for former Foyle Young Poets Mukahang Limbu and Luke Yates.

The top three will be published in the autumn issue of Poetry London.
