Majella Kelly wins Strokestown International Prize

The winner of the Strokestown International Poetry Prize is Majella Kelly from Co. Galway, Ireland with her poem ‘Virginia Creeper’. This year’s judges were Jo Shapcott and Gerard Smyth.

Congratulations to Majella and the other winners – Poetry Society Member Rebecca Farmer (second) and Keith Payne (third). Among the ten-strong shortlist were Poetry Society Members Geraldine Mitchell and Robert Powell.

1st Prize is € 2,000 plus a week-long residency at Anam Cara Writer’s and Artist’s Retreat. 2nd Prize € 700, 3rd Prize € 500. Reading fees of € 300 for 7 shortlisted poets and the 10 shortlisted poems will be printed in the Strokestown Anthology 2019.
