After a 9 month closure for essential venue works and exciting improvements, The Poetry Café is now excited to open this June! The Café has been closed while we improve the access, capacity and design of our public spaces. This work is being carried out alongside additional improvements to The Poetry Society offices and building as a whole. We look forward to welcoming back our wide and variant communities and cafe patrons in just a few weeks.
Support The Poetry Café’s refurbishment
The Poetry Society has big plans for The Poetry Café and we’d like to invite you to support the project. The refurbishment works promise to update and improve access, increase the capacity, provide new heating and ventilation, and acoustically separate the basement venue from the Café ground floor. Every aspect of the visitor experience will be improved, providing a home for poetry for years to come. Would you like to support the project? Here’s how you do it. All donations, however small, are very gratefully received.
The Poetry Café is now open for events. Please check the calendar for details of when we are open, or you can sign up to the Poetry Café Mailing List if you’d like the information emailed to you directly.
We very much look forward to welcoming you back into the improved and refreshed space.
In the meantime, here are a few pictures of the work:
The renovation of the Café and the wider redevelopment and updating of The Poetry Society’s premises has been made possible thanks to the generosity of a wide range of funders including: Arts Council England, The Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation, City Bridge Trust, Garfield Weston Foundation, The Robert Gavron Charitable Trust and SUEZ Communities Trust. We are very grateful for their support.
