Jeanette Burton wins Welshpool Poetry Competition

‘On the eve of my 40th birthday I watch a news report about a pet alligator’ is the brilliant title by Poetry Society Member Jeanette Burton, chosen by Jonathan Edwards as the winner of this year’s Welshpool Poetry Competition. Jeanette wins £150 for her poem and had another, ‘It is difficult to write a poem with a dog on your knee’, Highly Commended. 

Jeanette worked as an English and Creative Writing teacher and has an MA in Creative Writing from Nottingham Trent University

In third place was ‘At Nineteen I got a Tattoo to Inoculate Myself’ (another great title) by Poetry Society Member Julia Forster and fellow Members Tina Cole, Alison Lock and Kathy Miles were all Highly Commended.

The Festival is an annual event curated by Pat Edwards.
