Following June’s first young writers’ reading, on 21 August 2018 The Poetry Café hosted its second Young Poets Takeover. Seven poets aged 14 to 20 performed: Lucy Tiller, Nadia Lines, Meredith LeMaître, Foyre Jalloh, Cia Mangat, Damayanti Chatterjee and Judith Howe. All seven were Foyle Young Poets, SLAMbassadors or Young Poets Network challenge winners and their writing and performing skills certainly left their mark on the audience. The open mic section drew readers aged 7 to 23 who each read, rapped and performed brilliantly on such important themes as equality, tragedy and more.
