Café Supervisor (part-time, permanent)
24 hours p/w; £19k-£21.5k pro rata; deadline for applications 9am, 1st July 2019
A part-time permanent position based in central London. Some Saturday and evening working will be required, as well as some flexibility in hours worked.
The Poetry Café is both an independent vegetarian café and a buzzing performance venue. We’re one of London’s liveliest literary spaces, serving a diverse and eclectic community in the heart of Covent Garden. With a wide range of events taking place over six days and evenings per week, The Poetry Café is run by The Poetry Society as a warm and welcoming place for people to engage with poetry and performance.
We’re looking for an experienced and well-organised Café Supervisor to support the Café Manager in the day to day running of the Café, supervising other members of the Café team and assisting with preparing home cooked food, serving drinks at the bar, and ensuring the smooth running of events. You’ll also co-ordinate bookings, work with artists, promoters and suppliers, and help in the successful development of the business. A love for vegetarian/vegan food and a positive attitude will be essential in this customer-facing role.
The Poetry Café (Poetry Place Ltd) is a trading subsidiary of The Poetry Society. It contributes to the charitable aims of The Society by generating revenue for the Society’s activities, and hosting poetry events and activities for diverse audiences of all ages. The Café Supervisor will need to be both commercially and community minded, with experience in catering and a strong interest in the arts. The role requires administrative skills as well as an enthusiasm for working with the public, good teamwork and the ability to take independent initiative.
