Members’ Poems

Poetry News 2016The Members’ Poems competition sets Poetry Society Members the task of writing a poem or poems on a theme chosen by a leading poet.

The six winning poems are published in Poetry News, the Poetry Society’s members’ newsletter, which is published every quarter. Winners receive a small prize, and become eligible for both the Hamish Canham Prize and the Anne Born Prize, awarded annually. Selected winning poems are also nominated for the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem.

National Poetry Day Members’ Poems Competition Winners

Judge Amali Rodrigo has  chosen the six winning poems in the Poetry News competition on the National Poetry Day theme of ‘Freedom’: ‘Watching Promise’ by Sue Johns; ‘Brewing’ by Julia Webb; ‘Sea Lily’ by Anna Kisby; ‘Cutting the Strings’ by Patricia McCaw; Both ‘Room Six’ by Sharon Black; and ‘A Brickie’s Tale’ by A.P. Fraser.
