In 2017 The Poetry Society’s Young Poets Network partnered with the National Maritime Museum to challenge young poets to respond to the changing face of our polar regions. The challenge was judged by poet Harry Man, Lucy Wood and National Maritime Museum representative Claire Warrior, and many poems were entered as part of a free inspiration day at the Museum facilitated by poets Rachel Long and Mario Petrucci. The winning poems can be read online here:
The winning poem and eight runners-up are presented in an anthology below, featuring new voices from young people living across the UK and in New Zealand, USA and Canada. The Melting Ice project was created as part of the Heritage Lottery Fund Endeavour project by Royal Museums Greenwich in partnership with Young Poets Network.
