Poetry News – Summer 2016

spring 16 ThePoetryNews_Redesign_Poetry News_RedesignWelcome to the new-look Poetry News, the quarterly newspaper for members of The Poetry Society.

Poetry News has been given a fresh new look by Liam Relph, who was behind the recent redesign of The Poetry Review, and we’d like to hear what you think – contact Mike Sims, the editor: [email protected]

In the Summer 2016 issue, we interview David Morley, winner of the Ted Hughes Award for New Work in Poetry for The Invisible Gift: Selected Poems, and Ian Humphreys, winner of the Hamish Canham Prize 2016 for his poem ‘Zebra on East 55th and 3rd’.

Plus… Helen Mort writes about poetry pamphlets, Ilse Pedler about her ‘day job’ as an vet, and Ros Barber on silence, the theme of this year’s Stanza Poetry Competition. Member poets also offer essential tips on entering – and winning – poetry competitions. ‘Young Poetry News’ presents the latest developments on Foyle, SLAMbassadors and the Timothy Corsellis Prize.

For our latest competition, Julia Bird picked six of the best members’ poems on the theme of ‘Scent’. Congratulations to the winners: Claire Booker, Carole Bromley, Olivia Dawson, Victoria Kennefick, Rachel Piercey and Kate Wise.
