For Independent Bookshop Week, we interview the owners of the independent bookshops Five Leaves in Nottingham and the Book Corner, Halifax, about their past year and their hopes for the future. We introduce the winners of our Geoffrey Dearmer and Hamish Canham prizes – respectively Dean Browne and Jane Wilkinson – and present thought-provoking features by Laila Sumpton on Keats and Colonialism, and Carl Tomlinson on roots and rootlessness.

We celebrate the winners chosen by judge Jenny Lewis of the latest Poetry News members’ poems competition, on the theme of ‘The lesser loss’. As part of our Stanza coverage, Alice Hiller introduces the exciting digital project developed by Covent Garden Stanza, pairing up poets to share their work online and encourage others.
