Read Fran Lock, contributor to the latest issue of The Poetry Review and fresh from winning second prize in the National Poetry Competition, who goes behind her poem, ‘Melpomene’, in our regular online feature offering a view to a poem’s hinterland. Fran explains how killing time on London’s Southbank has led to poems making a connection between the Greek Muses and traveller women: “how they work with and against the taboos, prejudices and stereotypes they’ve been branded with; the way they use or subvert them to create and recreate themselves, to figure themselves out.”
